When Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP) launched its new program, Calling All Girl Bosses, they needed a transportation partner to help Girl Scouts travel to community meeting locations across the city of Philadelphia.
More than 100 Girl Scout participants from 43 different zip codes gathered on Saturday mornings with the support of 40 adult volunteers to work on take action projects to make improvements in their schools and neighborhoods.
To make the Calling All Girl Bosses program accessible, the program leaders wanted to offer free transportation to participants. Through a partnership with EverDriven, GSEP began offering students personalized transportation, ensuring both participants and their families had the support they needed.
Personalized Transportation for Community Projects
Before collaborating with EverDriven, the Calling All Girl Bosses team tried to arrange vans and buses on their own, but they found that it was too expensive, time-consuming, and inflexible. This approach lacked cost efficiency because the team needed to pay for far more seats and rent vehicles for a much longer period of time than was needed. Vans and drivers were driving long routes to pick up girls in different areas and waiting for students to finish volunteering, driving up costs unnecessarily.
Program staff also needed to manage transportation logistics for a dozen Girl Scouts every Saturday themselves. This intensive work included planning weekly rides, coordinating with parents and vendors, planning pickup and drop-off details with drivers, and ensuring every ride happened as planned, all while maintaining high safety standards along the way.
Because program leaders had to hire drivers far in advance, they also lacked the flexibility and agility to adapt transportation based on families’ needs. For example, last-minute changes were challenging to manage, and one-way trips—solely a pick-up or a drop-off for the activity—were not as feasible.
Unlocking New Opportunities for Every Girl Scout
Partnering with EverDriven solves these challenges, enabling Calling All Girl Bosses to delegate transportation to logistics experts who manage every aspect of the process while maintaining the highest safety standards in the industry. Participants now benefit from safe, personalized rides with assigned drivers to their project locations across Philadelphia, ensuring that everyone can participate, regardless of their transportation challenges.
“For a program like ours, where girls are coming from all over the city to different meeting spots, EverDriven is the perfect solution,” says Jenn Richards, Calling All Girl Bosses Project Manager. EverDriven streamlines trip assignments and routing with best-in-class technology at a lower cost. Girls are picked up by vetted drivers wearing blue EverDriven vests in vehicles that pass multiple safety inspections. Program managers and families can track participants in real-time through the EverDriven VIP app, ensuring transparency and peace of mind.
Working with EverDriven also saves the CAGB team time and energy because EverDriven manages the process from end to end. When issues arise, EverDriven’s hands-on local operations team is there to help. Program managers estimate that working with EverDriven takes half the time they had spent coordinating transportation directly.
Calling All Girl Bosses also extends flexibility and support to families. Parents and guardians can request transportation support as needed and can change locations or cancel rides up to two hours in advance. The ease of the experience means that more participants can join in on the fun, whether they need a ride one way or both ways to the activity. “Partnering with EverDriven has enabled us to remove another barrier that girls face. It allows us to reach girls who might have missed out because their parents are busy on the weekends. It also helped us get girls out to camp—some of them for the first time!” says Carin Johnson, Calling All Girl Bosses Program Manager. Because Calling All Girl Bosses only pays for rides taken, they save resources that they can allocate to support more community projects.
“Transportation for my daughter has been amazing and really helpful on days when I was unable to get her to the workshops myself.” – Calling All Girl Bosses parent
EverDriven’s mission is to ensure equity across educational opportunities. By collaborating with Calling All Girl Bosses, they helped Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania build an inclusive program that serves everyone involved.
Supporting Communities Across Philadelphia
The best part about the partnership between Calling All Girl Bosses and EverDriven is the transformative work that young girls are doing to improve the lives of others across the greater Philadelphia area every Saturday. Here are a few highlights from their tremendous program:
Lylah M. is developing robotics workshops to engage more girls in robotics. She noticed that the number of girls participating in her school’s robotics club dropped dramatically between fifth and sixth grade, and that boys claimed the most important roles on the team. Her goal is for at least five girls who are not currently involved in robotics to join the club.
Rachael Z. who is originally from China, is teaching Chinese to younger kids in her community. She believes that learning new languages and cultures helps people understand each other better. To make it fun, she’s using stories and acting to bring Chinese culture to life.
Kinsley J. is teaching kids from her community about the murals in the area that celebrate African American history and Black art. She’s offering free mural tours and hosting a workshop where participants create their own mural.
Allison G. is addressing the potholes that plague Philadelphia’s streets. She is creating and testing an app that residents and visitors to the city can use to report potholes and other disruptions on the roads. Through her project, she’s connecting with partners from the Philadelphia Streets Department, Philadelphia Police Department, Philadelphia Water Department, and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Calling All Girl Bosses is transforming the lives of young girls and their communities with mission-driven projects in Philadelphia. With its ability to match any transportation need, EverDriven supports non-profits in bringing life-changing experiences to students across the country.
