SPS opening 2 middle schools, breaking ground on 3 projects in 2026

Members of the Missouri Board of Education and Springfield school officials on Monday, Dec. 8, toured the construction site of the new Reed Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, a project of the 2023 bond issue that will open in summer 2026.

Work on the new Pipkin Middle School is so far ahead of schedule the Springfield district felt comfortable scheduling the 2026 State of the Schools address in that building. Superintendent Grenita Lathan will speak to community leaders there Aug. 6, reflecting on the past year and a preview of goals for the next one.
